Sigma leads the way at La Crosse Plow Co. site
The Sigma Group (Sigma) specializes in redeveloping old industrial locations. Sigma is honored to be assisting with the renovation of the historic former La Crosse Plow Co. in downtown La Crosse, Wisconsin. This two-block former factory was named to the National Register of Historic Places in March 2016 and is a vital component of growth plans for the City of La Crosse.
Sigma has the unique opportunity to contribute to this project in the following important roles:
- Owner’s representative
- Site and civil design engineer
- Environmental consultant
- Conducting site due diligence
- Securing approved remediation strategy
- Unmanned Aircraft Vehicle (drone) and 3D scanning providing as-built information
- Completing hazardous materials assessment and remediation addressing asbestos, lead paint and other industrial remnants
According to a La Crosse Tribune report, the La Crosse Plow Co. project includes between $25 million and $33 million in renovations. The development plan includes some 60 residential units on upper floors of a three-story building with potential for a fourth-floor addition. There is also opportunity for retail, office or commercial space in a one-story former foundry building.
The La Crosse Plow Co. buildings have been vacant for more than 20 years, but will not be so for much longer with construction scheduled for completion in 2018. Originally built in early 20th century, these buildings began as blacksmith operations and evolved into the larger Plow Co. operations. Eventually becoming part of the Allis-Chalmers Co., the buildings contained machine and engine manufacturing until the mid-1990s.
