Two sculptures

People of the Road – A Menomonee Valley Artistic Landmark

Published On: August 1, 2019

Two sculptures in the new, five-sculpture artistic landmark, entitled People of the Road, were installed by the Friends of Hank Aaron State Trail on May 4, 2019. The monument honors and celebrates the thousands of workers who built and serviced the locomotives and rail cars that carried Milwaukee’s name across the country. In order to reestablish a powerful connection to its history, they were installed in the Menomonee Valley Industrial Center, where the Milwaukee Road railroad shops once stood. The sculptures were designed using real archived photos from the Milwaukee Road railroad. Sigma’s Bob Peschel, P.E. provided in-kind management of the design and installation.
