Milwaukee Intermodal The Milwaukee Intermodal Station transformed into a featured Milwaukee landmark as part of a greater area redevelopment. The project included interior gutting and build-out, removal of the north, east, and west exterior facades, and reconfiguration of the adjacent parking lot and drop off zones.

Services provided by Sigma include:

Pre-demolition / Renovation Inspection

The Sigma Group reviewed a pre-renovation asbestos inspection performed by others and determined additional inspection and material sampling was necessary to properly characterize materials within the facility prior to conducting renovation activities. During the facility redevelopment, Sigma performed asbestos monitoring and abatement activities.

Sigma identified areas of sprayed-on fireproofing as asbestos-containing material (ACM) which was previously identified as non-ACM. Further, Sigma identified areas of additional sprayed-on fireproofing contamination inside concrete masonry unit (CMU) walls and behind exterior plaster walls constructed with furring strips.

Abatement Plan Development and Management

Sigma handled all preparations of asbestos and lead abatement project specifications and bid packages, and coordinated the pre-construction meetings for abatement activities. Sigma provided project management services for all abatement activities, including review of contractor invoices and acting as the liaison between the developer, contractor and OSHA, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and Milwaukee Department of Neighborhood Services compliance officers.

Air Monitoring and Reporting

Sigma conducted periodic ambient air monitoring and observation of abatement activities at the development site, including visual inspection, air clearance monitoring and notifying the Milwaukee Department of Neighborhood Services of completion of abatement. Sigma also conducted a limited lead-based paint assessment of the facility.
