The Sigma Group, Inc. is pleased to announce that Steve R. Meer, PE, staff engineer at Sigma, has been selected to receive the 2008 Alfred Noble Prize for co-authoring “Hydraulic Conductivity of Geosynthetic Clay Liners Exhumed from Landfill Final Covers,” Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, May 2007.

In selecting Meer for the award, the Alfred Noble Joint Prize Committee noted the paper’s “…significant immediate practical implications” as well as praised Meer for his “thorough literature search, critical analysis, good experimental scheme, hypothesis and testing of it and useful inference.”

The award is given for a technical paper of exceptional merit in honor of Alfred Noble, past president of the American Society of Civil Engineers and of the Western Society of Engineers, for the purpose of perpetuating his name and achievements.

Meer will accept the 2008 Alfred Noble Prize at the American Society of Civil Engineers’ Annual Business Meeting, November 8, 2008, in Pittsburgh, PA.
