Sigma leads the way to enhance marina experience

Milwaukee

Milwaukee County selected The Sigma Group led team to evaluate the McKinley Marina north parking area for current and future needs to enhance experiences for public use of this very popular location.

With the magnificent natural assets for the Lake Michigan lake shore combined with the diversity of uses, and recognizing that pavement serving traffic flow and parking was poor condition, Milwaukee County was keenly interested in having a conceptual plan developed to address the needs of stakeholders that would also function to improve water quality associated with storm water and boating-related activities.

The Sigma team developed a conceptual plan rooted in sustainable design while achieving the functional objectives of multiple stakeholder groups. The plan was designed with a much needed realignment for McKinley’s traffic flow, wayfinding and maritime atmosphere. The plan focused on stormwater management and water quality protection from boating activities such as washing and fish cleaning.

With an array of McKinley Marina users and the broader groups of visitors to the Milwaukee County Parks lakeshore beaches and amenities, it was important to present alternatives and seek input from the stakeholders and general public.
