Sigma helps guide work on Hank Aaron State Trail

Milwaukee County

North Bank Trail

Design and Construction Services

The Sigma Group provided a right-of-way plat survey, environmental documents, and construction engineering and inspection for the Hank Aaron State Trail Valley Passage Pierce Street Connections, and Extension projects. These recreational trail projects extend the existing Hank Aaron State Trail, and provide connections beyond the Menomonee Valley to local communities on the south and west, eventually expanding to Waukesha County.

Survey

Sigma compiled an acquisition plat, consisting of rights, over land that is part of the Hank Aaron State Trail, including easements for an access road, bridge, tunnel and main trail. The project falls within lands controlled by the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Milwaukee, Soo Line Railroad, Wisconsin Department of Administration and private owners.

Environmental

Sigma provided all hazardous material investigations for the project corridor, including Phase I and II site assessments, hazardous material inspection, and developed final plans and special provisions for material handling plans and agency approvals.

Agency Coordination

Sigma served as liaison coordinating Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Menomonee Valley Partners, and local municipalities facilitating safety and design enhancements and other construction material.

Construction

Sigma provided full contract management, construction engineering and inspection. Major construction included modular block, mechanically stabilized earth, cast-in-place concrete retaining walls, installation of two prefabricated steel truss pedestrian bridges, precast/post-tensioned concrete box culvert under Canadian Pacific railroad, 3.75 miles of asphalt recreational trail, rehabilitation of multiple existing bridges, storm sewer, rain gardens, decorative staining and murals, and landscaping.
